Collaboration

Recording sound assets

Yesterday, me and my group started recording sounds for the collaboration project. In this session, we spoke about how the sound is going, recorded some foley and recorded some dialogue.

For foley, we recorded the rabbit puppet dancing by hitting and rubbing sticks against each other, scrunching tape to make a campfire sound, a light switch and a door knock. The rest of the sounds are tricky to record as a lot of them are underwater and the cutscenes aren’t fully completed yet, meaning we cannot start the sound design for these scenes. But we have started to create a sound library for this project in preparation for these to be completed. The major issue with these recordings was that they were recorded in the studio, not the foley room as there were other people recording foley in there, meaning background noise of the computer is audible in the recordings. This is a minor issue and isn’t much of an issue, but is an issue nonetheless.

For the voice-over, we recorded all of Edwards’s lines and Bryce’s lines. We just need one more characters voice-over to complete all of the voice-overs for this game. I think the recording process of this was good, with similar issues to the foley recording (as they were recorded in the same room), but the main issue was the microphone. We used the same microphone for all our recordings, the shotgun mic used is great for foley, but not as good for vocals.
