BISHI

BISHI is a singer, electronic rock-sitarist, composer, producer and performer born in London of Bengali descent. She has been trained in both Hindustani and western classical styles of the sitar.

BISHI has released two albums and five EPs on her label Gryphon Records.

BISHI is the founder of WITCiH: The Women In Technology Creative industries Hub, a platform elevating women in tech.

She was born into a sitar playing family, which in turn allowed her to learn the sitar at a young age. But she went against the sitar norms and instead dedicated herself to a more progressive approach.

BISHI has collaborated with a range of artists and groups, including; The London Symphony Orchestra, The Kronos Quartet, Yoko Ono’s ‘Meltdown’, The Science Gallery, Joanna McGregor, Nick Knight’s SHOWstudio’, a film collaboration with fashion designer Manish Arora, and recorded collaborations with Sean Ono Lennon, Tony Visconti, Jarvis Cocker, Daphne Guinness & City of London Sinfonia as a Tanpura soloist on Jonny Greenwood’s Water.’ BISHI produced LANDR’s first-ever Sitar Sample pack.

When watching her performances, what stood out first was the developed visuals. With each performance boasting new visuals, especially when she collaborated with Volta to create a VR audio-visual experience. I enjoyed the stacking and looping of the sitar in her improvisations.
