Post-analysis of Sung Tieu’s guest lecture
Sung Tieu’s guest lecture was 2 years ago, but it introduced me to a new section of sound I never saw before, sound warfare and the psychology of sound. These are two topics that have interested me since this lecture. Three of my essays have been inspired by this topic that she introduced to me (“The history of sonic weapons and their uses today”, “Moral panic, and other contemporary sound issues, as seen with glass instruments”, and “How was jazz villainized in Nazi Germany, and is music still being treated this way?”). Her topic of “Operation wandering soul” has even been referenced and studied further in my written works.
In the future, I hope to learn more about these topics and find obscure examples of psychology and sociology in sound.
