Post-analysis of Khyam Allami’s guest lecture
I originally had this guest lecture 2 years ago, and it inspired a good amount of work for me. Firstly, his talk on microtonality intrigued me, as it’s something I have never delved into. The free software he made, which allows microtonal scales to be played in most DAWs, is something I have used often. Along with being interested in microtonality, I acquired a Baglama, which is a microtonal Turkish folk instrument. I have used my Baglama in many pieces, as it’s full of texture, and its microtonality adds some flare to my quite Westernised music and sound. I attempted to make a microtonal guitar by adding multiple new frets onto the neck, but that didn’t work, sadly.
In the future, I feel microtonality is a concept I should explore more and is something I’ve wanted to do for a while now. The microtonal electronic music I have made is extremely interesting to me, but not good enough yet to be published yet.
