Sound Studies & Aural CulturesVisiting Practitioner

Rebecca Lennon

Hearing her art was an interesting experience because it was mostly around the voice with some other backing sounds. Hearing this prominent voice constantly, with what they’re saying, was something I have not sonically heard before. Especially when the visuals had someone talking but the voice had different words, I remember her saying she enjoys dissociating the mouth and the voice which I directly heard here. She tries bringing a neurodivergent approach to language, and I could really hear this approach in all her work, being familiar yet different.

Along with the voice, her use of visuals and poetry in the piece really helped bring the piece forward and complete it. Hearing one of her pieces would be interesting, due to the spatialization aspect of her work.
